Robert has been actively involved in Civil War reenacting since 1998 and has held various enlisted and officer positions with different organizations. With more than twelve years of reenacting experience, Robert’s main focus of late has been on staff responsibilities and period paperwork.
Robert is currently a member of the Wheeling Fencibles and Pridgeon’s Shenandoah Legion. As assistant adjutant general of second brigade, Robert looks forward to working with the individual battalion staffs. In addition to executing the duties of assistant adjutant general, Robert plans to further his knowledge and understanding of the roles and functions of various command and staff positions, by beginning his studies with the Living History Institutes Command and Staff College.
Robert earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science Degree in School Administration from Shenandoah University, which is located in Winchester, Va. When not reenacting, Robert teaches high school language arts. Robert resides with his wife Lynise and daughters Maggie age five and Mollie age three who are members of The Patriotic Citizens of Wheeling. Robert and his family live in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.

Captain Stevenson has risen through the ranks to his current post, but in reenacting the trip has taken him over 25 years. Rob started in a Revolution War unit and moved to the War Between the States in 1992 (a mainstream beginning, then stepping up to the Chesapeake Volunteer Guard (CVG) and the 2nd Brigade, Southern Division. He organized living history weekends for NJ in a program that were awarded a Best Practice citation and he received personal recognition from the governor's office. As 1st Sergeant, he assisted in bringing a mainstream unit from weak dismounted cavalry impression to a more authentic impression as a company of Virginia infantry.
He believes it is always possible to do a better job and brings that attitude to the staff and his post as Brigade Assistant Inspector General (AIG). He brings his experience as CVG Sgt Major and Southern Division AAIG to his new post. In his off-duty time, he teaches graduate school.
His most recent book is Perspectives on Violence and Violent Death from Baywood press and he has an upcoming work (co-authored with Carr Mahar) on the Irish Brigade The Bloody Shamrock: Stories of the Irish Brigade. His favorite quote, by Edmund Burke, sums up his philosophy of life and history, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
Rob lives in Washington, NJ (in Bergen County – there are many Washingtons in NJ) with his patient wife, Eileen. They have two sons – Sean (who outranks his father in 18th, 19th and 21st century armies) and Robert Louis.

I was born and raised in Chesterfield County, Virginia and attended John Tyler Community College. After graduating from community college, I served in the United States Air Force and performed the duties of sergeant of Data Systems and Statistics Control Supervisor. I I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. I am a self taught artist. I love to paint with oils and acrylics. I also work with pen and ink and watercolors. I work mostly on landscapes, seascapes, and the occasional still life. I have been reenacting since 1988. My first event was under Captain Chuck Hillsman at Sailors Creek. Later, I joined the 12th Virginia, Co. “B”, commanded by Captain Bill Edwards. Eventually, I joined the 18th Virginia, Co. “B” where I served as a private, corporal, and first sergeant. In 1999, I served for a year with the “Petersburg City Guard”. After serving with the Petersburg City Guard, I formed the 59th Virginia, Co. “I”, and served as its commander for eight years, resigning in 2008.
was honorably discharged after four years of service. For the past five years I have served in the Virginia Defense Force with the rank of Sergeant First Class. In June of 2010 I retired as an Environmental Engineer and Erosion Inspector and presently live in Powhatan County, Virginia with my wife Lynne of twenty-seven years. I have a son and daughter, from a previous marriage, and four grand children.
I enjoy participating in “campaign style” events so much that I relinquished command of the 59th Virginia and became a private in the 14th Virginia, Co. “I”, “Chester Grays”, members of “Pridgeon’s Shenandoah Legion”. I had forty-six ancestors who fought for the Confederacy, two of which were in the 14th Virginia. I look forward to serving as first sergeant at First Manassas this coming year and at future events with the “Southern Division”.
In the mid 90's, I served as a staff officer on the old 2nd Corps (federal) staff. I switched to a medical impression early after the turn of the century and have done both Confederate and Federal surgeon impressions. I grew up amongst the battle scared environs of Richmond, Virginia with decades of researching and exploring the many battlefields. With trench fortifications and a confederate river battery behind my childhood home, along with frequent finds of bullets, buttons, and cannon
balls, it became a natural interest in all things historical at an early age.
I began Civil War reenacting in 1977. Since that time, I have portrayed and held various roles, positions, and ranks up to Lieut. Colonel of a battalion. Various activities and portrayals over the years included Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, Naval/Marine, Staff and Medical. I am frequently giving lectures and historical programs at schools, colleges, museums, conferences, assorted historical sites, and battlefield parks throughout the mid-Atlantic region. I became one of the guys that museums and collectors would confer to help identify and authenticate relics, as well as historical advisor-consultant on a number of movie films.
I am an avid historian, and researcher, with particular interest of study of tactics, relics, uniforms, weapons, ammunition, period currency, medical and flags.
Currently, I am the unit commander of the 14th Virginia Infantry Regt Co. I, based in central and southside Va. I am also an historical author writing for Broadfoot Publishing Co. on their new Civil War South Carolina Regimental Series.

Thomas Federico is relatively new to reenacting and living history but he has been studying mid-nineteenth century medicine, especially as it evolved in the South, for many years. Thomas has also researched the various differences between the civilian and military medical practices during that time period and has focused much of his attention on the diagnosis and treatment of period diseases. Thomas has participated in several civilian and military events in Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina. He is looking forward to being a part of the Second Brigade, deepening his knowledge of period medicine and faithfully portraying one of your assistant surgeons.
Born in New Jersey, Thomas has lived in the South for nearly twenty years, primarily in Tennessee and Georgia. When he is not perusing the Southern Medical and Surgical Journal for the “latest” case studies on erysipelas, hydrophobia or hospital gangrene, Thomas practices law as an in-house counsel for Turner Broadcasting System in Atlanta, Georgia.
Thomas and his wife, Stephanie, have three children - Avery, age 11, Elli, age 6 and Bennett, age 2. Thomas and his wife are expecting another son in February.
